      • I send you my impressions about the exhibition on Japan taking place in my city.

The exhibition includes many artifacts that are beautiful, the Kiseru, saws, armor of the samurai, the katana are beauty breaths, you can feel the love of manual work and respect that the Japanese people are towards objects even the more common.

The tsuba submitted are beautiful, it’s amazing that the Japanese people can make a small piece of metal just as beautiful with the addition of ground that are sometimes confusing (like motif of two samurai, one of whom is injured head).

The various texts on the history of ancient Japan and modern, show this country in a new light and show that it is not very different from Western countries, because Japan is more misunderstood than anything else, and when we bother to understand, we can see that Japan is a country that had to fight internally because of its history and externally because of Westerners who thought they were all allowed.

Some items are very unusual as the object that allows cats to rest in warm.

The sets with the replica of the famous Itsukushima Shrine floating Torii is really impressive, we can feel the power that emerges from Shinto shrines, and those even if we are not believers.

Japanese gardens are beautiful, we can feel the delicacy with which they are created, but also the rigidity of certain Japanese customs that show that certain things are taken very seriously and must be respected.

Taiko concert was really awesome, personally I could not play like that every day, have seen that even for traditional music, Japanese are serious and meticulous.

The background music, which was the shamisen was very sweet, this music really transported us into another world, one could feel the delicacy with which it was played.

The sellers were very helpful, friendly and genuinely interested in customers, they were very professional and respectful.

  2. Hi Anthony,

    Thanks for great report!

I think you saw a lot of interesting stuffs at the event because those stuffs are very different from yours.

You know, we have very long history as a country since 2670 years ago and have been kept the body and soul of country.

Shinto is the important for you to understand Nippon.
Shinto is not religion but ritual.
We think the chain of life from ancestors and to descendants is the most important. The family is more important than individuals. It is the common raw from our long history.

To understand more, I’d like to recommend you to read our myth “Kojiki” and “The Thousands Leaves” then observer the behavior of Japanese people and Japanese modern culture carefully.
    You would discover something interesting.

Anyway, thanks again for having interests in our culture.
